Neck injury victim Andy expected to be back

A DENTON cricketer is expected to make a full recovery after breaking his neck in three places.Andy Neill suffered the serious injury when he came off his mountain bike in North Wales in early December.

But he still hopes to play some part in their forthcoming Greater Manchester Cricket League campaign.

Andy, who appeared for both Denton CC’s first and second XI last season, will be in a supportive brace for the next few weeks after his accident.

He was the seconds’ leading wicket taker, with 23 dismissals at an average of 16.3 last term, while also being their opening batsman.

And amazingly given the severity of his injuries, Neill is hoping to play some part in the seconds’ tilt at Greater Manchester Cricket League, division three east.

A spokesman for Denton CC said: “Thankfully Andy is well enough to be home, is still mobile and is in a supportive brace.

“He says the support he has had in this life changing time has been massive.

“He is well and scans are showing some gradual improvement but he is still fully braced up and he knows it will be a long process to recovery.

“But he also believes he’s got plenty of wickets left in him, so if the doctors say he’s good to go, he wants to be back at some point in the season!”
