A DENTON charity had an extra-special visitor when Manchester United star Chris Smalling showed off his skills to some four-legged friends.
And the Old Trafford defender got to take on some of the club’s legends – or rather some dogs named after them.
He even came face-to-face with himself!
The England star took time out from his training schedule to drop into Dogs Trust Manchester’s base on Parkway.
Smalling and wife Sam, who have two dogs of their own – Parson Russell Cross, Miley and Hungarian Vizsla, Ruben – met a litter of puppies named after Man Utd legends – Chris included.
Puppy Chris and the other furry team-mates named Fergie, Becks, Bobby and Neville definitely gave him a run for his money when it came to ball skills!
The 29-year-old also met 10-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Tyra, who managed to pinch the football from him, one-year-old Crossbreed Comet and 11-year-old Border Collie Macey.
He also urged people to look at rehoming dogs while also warning that it is not just a case of, ‘take a dig in and leave them.’
Smalling said: “The visit to Dogs Trust Manchester was great, we loved meeting the dogs and are thrilled to hear a number of them have found new homes already.
“Hopefully it won’t be too long before the rest are rehomed.
“Following my trip to Dogs Trust, and as dog lover myself, I’d urge everyone to think carefully about how a dog fits into their lives.
“They are a big commitment – do your research before purchasing. And please consider adopting a rescue dog, there are so many looking for loving homes!”
