CHILDREN may receive a visit from sailing star Sir Ben Ainslie as part of a link up with a trust designed to provide opportunities to STEM school pupils.

Debdale Outdoor Activities Club (DOAC) is on board with the 1851 Trust’s Rebels Sailing Programme, an initiative inspired by the “Formula 1 of sailing”, the British America’s Cup challenger, INEOS Team UK.

And as part of that, Sir Ben, who is skippering the vessel, may pass on some of his skills to children at the Hyde Road centre.

DOAC is the only place in the Manchester area that is taking part in the programme, designed to help kids studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

And with Sir Ben as the north-west ambassador for the national scheme, it is likely he will pop in to help out.

So far, a date has not been set for when he will visit DOAC but they have been told they ‘should’ have one.
