Blades have reason to shop for Morrison

RAVEL Morrison hopes to relaunch his Premier League career after joining Sheffield United following a globetrotting circuit.

The footballer, who lived with his grandparents Chris and Maureen Carlway in Denton when he was growing up, signed a deal with the Blades after linking up with them on trial.

After coming through at Manchester United, the 26-year-old has played in Wales for Cardiff, Italy for Lazio, Mexico for Club Atlas and Sweden for Ostersunds.

Now he is back on home soil, he is determined to take full advantage.

Morrison, who may play for his new club in its opening Premier League fixture at Bournemouth on Saturday, August 10, said: “It’s great to be back in England and get my career kick-started again.

It’s exciting.

“I can’t wait to be back playing.

“It’s a great bunch of lads who’ve all got great ability and the manager is great.

“I could tell when I went to Portugal with the team that everyone’s together, it’s a great team. Before I went away, for the first few days here, they made me feel very welcome.

“When I went away with them, it felt like I’d been here for a year.

“It was an easy decision to make, it’s the Premier League. It’s always nice to play at the big grounds against the big teams.”

Morrison, tipped for big things when he was coming through at Manchester United, has been backed by Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder to rediscover the form that made him so fancied.

He said: “I’ve spoken to a number of people about Ravel and it is clear that he has serious ability.

“We are getting a fantastic footballer with a tremendous pedigree and this is a great opportunity for Rav, we believe we can help him get back to the level he wants to be.

“He’s done extremely well during his time with us and it was great to have him in Portugal. It wasn’t about him coming and being on trial because we knew about his abilities.

“Taking him with us was basically getting to know him and what he’s about, what makes him tick and how he integrates with the players. Trips like what we have been on are invaluable for that.”
